Thank you to everyone who took part in the Planet Earth Zone 🙏

Thanks to all the students, scientists and teachers that have taken part in the Planet Earth Zone! This zone was funded by the Royal Institution, and was based around their CHRISTMAS LECTURES, which you can watch on BBC iPlayer. It has been a fab four weeks. We hope you’ve enjoyed it – and we hope you’ve learnt something about what it’s like being a scientist. There have been some excellent questions asked by students. Here are a couple of my favourites: What causes the most pollution in rivers and how can we help? I watched the Ri CHRISTMAS LECTURES, and in the 3rd lecture Dr Tara Shine was talking about how we can use hydrogen as a renewable source of energy and how it can replace fossil fuels and electric power. Who’s taking part in the Planet Earth Zone? 🌍

From Monday 11 January 2021, students can connect with scientists in the Planet Earth Zone! Students can Ask questions, Chat with experts, and learn more about our planet and its environment. All the scientists’ work is related to this year’s Royal Institution CHRISTMAS LECTURES. Get prepared by watching the lectures on BBC iPlayer. Scientists in the Planet Earth Zone include: Lin Marvin, who manages a laboratory where rock or soil samples can be prepared ready for x-ray analysis. 🧫🔬 Lin was a Demonstration Technician on the CHRISTMAS LECTURES Stephanie Henson, who studies how ocean biology is affected by climate change 🐡☀️ and who took part in the CHRISTMAS LECTURES Helena Brown, who looks at how fluids interact with each other and the soil 💧 she was part of the CHRISTMAS LECTURES too!
