I believe that it is about 4.54 billion years (give or take 50 million years). I struggle to even wrap my head around that amount of time!

I think its 4.5 Billion years. Suuuper old 😉 If you want to get an idea of hoooow long that is, theres a really really beautiful video on this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBikbn5XJhg

Basically they shrink the age of the universe to 10 minutes. Earth is born at around minute 7 and humans only show up in the very last second of the video. Its really impressive I think

Hi Jacob, as mentioned in the other answers the Earth is 4.54 billions years old. @YearonEarth have summarised the history of the Earth scaled to a one year period here: https://wakelet.com/wake/BZFpsCuhkdbhg437cmWpt. Check out how late in the year humans finally make an appearance!

From dating meteorites, we think that the solar system formed 4567 million years ago, and the early Earth began to form after that. An impact between the early Earth and another planet happened about 4500 million years ago, forming the Moon. Earth reached its current size and state around that time and its insides have been cooling down ever since.

I always am reminded of this quote when that question comes up “James Ussher (1650) deduced that the first day of Creation began at nightfall preceding Sunday, October 3, 4004 B.C”
We have come a long way since this analysis of the bible!
