Both particle accelerators and dark matter are real. But maybe not in the same way as in the sci-fi series! Particle accelerators are used to crash particles into each other at very high speed. When they collide, they break up and reveal things about the very fabric of the universe, i.e. what are atoms made of and how do these different subatomic particles behave? Dark matter is basically matter that we know should exist but we can’t really detect it so we assume it doesn’t interact with the electromagnetic radiation that we usually use to observe things.
