      Hi Rhys
Eradicating the cause of climate change (too much human-made CO2 in the atmosphere) is something governments around the world are trying to make happen this century. You might have called this “net zero”, which means removing as much CO2 from the atmosphere as we put in it.
Eradicating the effects of climate change will take centuries, because the ocean stores all that excess carbon for hundreds to thousands of years. It stores carbon for so long because its circulation is very slow. I don’t mean the surface ocean currents, which can be very fast, but the length of time it takes water at the very bottom of the ocean to circulate back up to the surface. Carbon stored in those deep waters will continue to be released into the atmosphere over hundreds of years as the water slowly returns to the surface.
