Hi Esme, fun question 🙂 I have actually only scuba dived to about 35-40 metres, which is much shallower than my research takes place at. For deep sea research we have a few options other than scuba, the ones I’ve used are trawling (where we catch fish in a net and bring them to the surface), acoustics (where we use sonar to get an estimate of how much fish there are) and remotely operated cameras. There are also submersibles, but I haven’t been down in one – thats the dream!
