Unfortunately, greenery, being a living thing, will always be changing (for example growing) and will eventually die. Greenery (like trees) requires water, nutrients and sunlight to stay alive. They also take a long time to grow, especially to the size of even the smallest buildings.
It’s a great idea to think about – and it would be possible to make some kind of transform a giant tree into a small dwelling.

Sometimes it is possible to put a green roof on top of a building, either by adding a green roof to an existing building, or by building a new building with a green roof specifically. Green roofs can be covered in a variety of different materials to provide a good substrate, or ground cover, for plant growth. Plant growth on green roofs will be limited for a few different reasons, including: 1) Plants are much more exposed on green roofs than they are on the ground, so they have to battle with high levels of sunlight and wind 2) If plant cover becomes too much on a roof, the building may collapse! Green roofs, if given the right plants seeds and the right ground cover, can provide important habitat not just for the plants themselves, but also for many different types of invertebrate. These include spiders, butterflies and bees. If green roofs are planned and designed well, they can be really valuable for native wildlife species and can be an environment for many different types of small plants.

I don’t know the answer to this but having plants in buildings makes sense to me because it makes them nicer to live and work in. They also take in carbon dioxide and pump out oxygen for us to breathe and so might improve the air quality as well.

I think we should build more – great for air quality, biodiversity and so beautiful! Check out these plant-integrated structures in Singapore:

Hi Amudalat, I don’t know why people don’t build buildings with lots of greenery but I think they should. They are good for the atmosphere, create a lovely environment and help reduce stress in people. I’ve bought a couple of plants for my home study & I love them

That’s a very good question that I can answer in one word – MONEY. Builders Architects and their clients (the owner on the building) are very cost conscious these days and land is very expensive. Plus, if I have greenery around my office block, I’ve got to pay someone to keep it tidy.
