I didn’t discover it personally, but because weirs and locks were built on the river in the 17th century downstream from where we are to help barges travel down to London, the trout in the upper reaches of the river couldn’t get down/back to sea, so they have developed completely separate characteristics – a ‘genus’ of trout not found anywhere else. Quite unique!
